Judge serves eviction notice on

pregnant mom’s unborn baby

PROVO, Utah (AP) —A Utah mom in her final days

of pregnancy gave her baby an eviction notice and made

it official with a judge’s signature. Incredibly, the baby

obeyed.

Kaylee Bays was pregnant with her third child, a girl,

and thought she was going into labor last week, but it

stopped.

She went back to work to her job as a judicial assistant

at the Fourth District Court in Provo, and jokingly asked

Judge Lynn Davis to serve an eviction notice on her baby.

He did. And It worked. Less than 12 hours later, baby

Gretsel was born, the Daily Herald reported .

Bays said Davis told her it was his first baby eviction

notice in his 31 years as a judge.

“He told me, ‘If it really works, I want it framed.’ It did,

and I’m going to frame it for him,” Bays said.

Bays said the eviction notice gave her baby three days

to “vacate the premises.”

The notice was addressed to Gretsel at Mommy Belly

Lane, inWomb, Utah.

“She came 12 hours later. So far, she’s a good listener,”

she joked. “She didn’t want to be in contempt of court.”

Deputies: Man drove golf cart

while drunk, flipped it over

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) —A New Mexico man is

facing charges after authorities say he drove a golf cart

while drunk and crashed it into a fence.

The Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office said Justin Va-

lenzuela was arrested Sunday on charges of aggravated

drunken driving following reports of the golf cart acci-

dent outside of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

According to deputies, Valenzuela drove the golf cart

with three passengers on board when he lost control of

it. Deputies say the cart slammed into a fence and flipped

over.

Authorities say one passenger was taken to a Las Cru-

ces-area hospital with a serious leg injury.

Valenzuela reportedly admitted to deputies that he had

been drinking earlier in the day.

The 33-year-old is being held without bail. It was not

known if he had an attorney.

Oddities

Today is Tuesday, Oct. 24, the

297th day of 2017.There are

68 days left in the year.

Today’s Highlight in History:

On Oct. 24, 1952, Republican

presidential candidate Dwight

D. Eisenhower declared in

Detroit, “I shall go to Korea”

as he promised to end the

conflict. (He made the visit

over a month later.)

On this date:

In 1537, Jane Seymour, the third

wife of England’s King Henry

VIII, died 12 days after giving

birth to Prince Edward, later

King Edward VI.

In 1648, the Peace of Westphalia

ended the Thirty Years War

and effectively destroyed the

Holy Roman Empire.

The fear of the Lord is the

beginning of wisdom, and

knowledge of the Holy One

is understanding.

Hopefully all had a ter-

rific fall break, whether it

was spent going on an ex-

citing trip, with family and

friends, at home bingeing

Netflix or all of the above.

The break also highlighted

the cool weather that makes

Fall all the more enjoyable,

so students are returning to

school with fresh minds as

crisp as the air.

Various West High clubs

are showing their enjoy-

ment for the Fall weather

by getting together for dif-

ferent activities and events.

The HOSA club members

will be going to Ballinger’s

Corn Maze on Thursday,

Oct. 26. Those interested

will need to turn in a per-

mission slip and pay the

cost of $10 to go. The

FBLA club will have its so-

cial on Saturday, Oct. 28 at

the local bowling alley here

in Morristown. Those who

would like to attend will

need to complete a permis-

sion slip and return it to

Mrs. Whaley and pay the

cost of $10 to participate.

Members of the Interact

club have been collecting

candy for the Boys’ and

Girls’ Club’s annual Hal-

loween party, and will con-

tinue to do so until Mon-

day, Oct. 30. Students are

being asked to donate bags

of individually wrapped

candies within their TNN,

and the TNN that collects

the most candy based on

weight will win breakfast

from King Donuts. Last,

but certainly not least, the

West High Student Council

is hosting the First Annual

Fall Festival and dance on

Friday, Nov. 10, from 5 to

9 p.m. Tick-

ets will cost

$5 and all

students are

welcome to

come join

the fun dur-

ing the Fall.

West High

clubs

are

welcome to

set up and include other

activities for students, and

the club sponsor or leader

should contact Dr. Drinnon

if interested.

For some new infor-

mation in Trojan Talk, I

thought it will be nice to

give a little reminder for

my fellow senior peers,

and include several col-

lege open house dates and

scholarship deadlines. Se-

niors should keep in mind

that both the open house

visits and scholarships are

online applications, but

the counseling office is al-

ways there to lend a help-

ing hand. Upcoming open

house visitation dates for

multiple colleges are as

follows. On Nov. 4, East

Tennessee State Univer-

sity and Middle Tennessee

State University are wel-

coming interested students

to its open house. Also on

Nov. 4, the University of

Tennessee at Knoxville is

having its annual Rocky

Top Tailgate.

Carson-Newman Col-

lege, King College, Tus-

culum College, and Ten-

nessee Tech

University

will all be

hosting an

open house

event

on

Nov.

11.

Aside from

open house

opportuni-

ties, MTSU

will be in Johnson City on

Oct. 25 and in Knoxville

on Oct. 26 during its True

Blue Tour. The following

dates are scholarship dead-

lines for various colleges as

well. Dec. 1 is the deadline

for Middle Tennessee State

University, Tennessee Tech

University, and University

of Tennessee at Chatta-

nooga. Students applying

to Carson-Newman Uni-

versity, King University,

or Tusculum College are

advised to apply early for

scholarships. The competi-

tive scholarship deadline

for UT at Knoxville is Nov.

1, and the general scholar-

ship deadline is Dec. 15,

which is also the deadline

for ETSU. The deadline to

register for the Tennessee

Promise is Nov. 1.

Now let’s return back

to the other West High

Trojan reminders and an-

nouncements that pertain

to all of the student body.

Yearbooks are still on sale

for $70 or $75 at www.

yearbookordercenter.com.

The school code is 13978.

The deadline for the senior

dedication baby photos

and messages is coming

up, where everything is

due by Wednesday, Nov.

1. If parents and students

were not able to attend the

first one, there will be a

second FAFSA help night

this Thursday, Oct. 26; ap-

plication for the FAFSA

is open until Jan. 16. The

deadline for Governor’s

School of the Arts is Oct.

25 and all of Governor’s

School applications have

a deadline of Nov. 15. Se-

niors are encouraged to

be working on attaining

at least twenty points for

their Work Ethic Diploma.

Sports for the week ahead

include the Cross-Country

Region l AA Meet at 1

p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26

and a homeVarsity football

game versus Bearden high

school at 7:30 p.m., where

Senior Night will be taking

place as well.

Colder weather just goes

to show that the school year

is passing by quicker than

most realize, with each and

every day bringing new op-

portunities, activities and

events that come together

to make warm high school

memories. The West High

Trojan Nation hall is sure

to have a happy fall.
