CHURCH GUIDE Page 5 Catherine Nenney Baptist Church 1450 Silver City Road, Whitesburg Organized in 1880, Cath- erine Nenney Memorial Baptist Church still proudly stands in 2019, by the grace of God, as a center of wor- ship and training in Chris- tian living in the Catherine Nenney community. Catherine Nenney Me- morial Baptist Church, lo- cated in Hamblen County, is the consolidation of two churches in 1889. The Ce- dar Hill Baptist Church, organized in 1880 with 38 members was located be- tween the Bent Creek and Rocky Point Church on Sil- ver City Road. The other historical roots run to Oc- tober 1881 when the Bent Creek Church voted to move to the booming village of Whitesburg. Located on the bustling railroad, a minority led by the Rev. Thomas N. Gilbert met at the old Cave Spring School house and organized the Second Bent Creek Baptist Church with 33 members. The Rev. M.M. Buchner served as pastor from 1882-1888, except for one year, 1885, when R. C. Horne was a pastor. In 1888, Cedar Hill and the Second Bent Creek were consolidated under the lat- ter name, and in 1889, the name Catherine Nenney Memorial Baptist Church appeared in the association minutes. The deed is re- corded in Hamblen County date: March 30, 1887, Book No. 1. The name resulted from the construction of a new meeting house. Cath- erine Nenney Graham gave a large contribution on the building and was honored with the name. Since the name change, the church has been served by 33 pastors including the current pastor, the Rev. James Ramsey. Catherine Nenney Memorial Baptist Church is not just another church. Each member seeks to make this a Christ-cen- tered church, a church with a vision, a spirit, a message, a challenging program and a witnessing membership. This church is not a rival of any other church. We do not boast that our program and buildings are better than those of other churches. We strive to be a church worthy of the Christ whom we hon- or. It is not the business of this church to criticize any other church. We believe that there is so little time to spread the Gospel through- out the world, that we do not dare waste any of this precious time by pausing to condemn others. Catherine Nenney Me- morial Baptist Church ex- tends to everyone who is seeking a Saviour, a means of serving Him and open invitation to come and join with us in Christian fellow- ship. Our times of worship are Sunday school at 9:45 a.m., Sunday worship ser- vice at 10:45 a.m., Sunday night service at 6 p.m. and Wednesday night service at 7 p.m.
