CHURCH GUIDE Page 15 Cedar Hill Church of God The Cedar Hill Church of God is excited to be celebrat- ing our 115th year in 2024. We are a part of the Church of God Pentecostal denomination with International headquarters in Cleveland, TN. The Cedar Hill Church was organized in 1909 by W. F. Bryant, who was a pioneer minister in the Church of God movement serving as an evangelist, pastor, and Overseer of Kentucky and Tennessee. Bryant worked tirelessly along with R. G. Spurling to form the Christian Union in 1886, and then they organized the Holi- ness Church at Camp Creek 10 years later; this church later became known as the Church of God. W. F. Bryant organized the Cedar Hill Church of God in 1909 with twelve charter mem- bers. Cedar Hill began wor- ship in a home owned by the widow Robinette. A short time later the Poplar Springs log church was donated by friends and was moved near the loca- tion where the Cedar Hill Boat Dock is today. In 1941, the church property was purchased by Tennessee Valley Authority, and the church relocated to its present location on Cedar Hill Road above Cherokee Lake. Sadly, the second building was destroyed by fire, but our cur- rent building was completed in 1993 and still faithfully serves our community today. Pastor Joseph Cole has served in his current position since January 2019, when he was appointed to succeed long-time pastor Samuel Youngblood. Pastor Sam and his wife Ruth faithfully served Cedar Hill with three separate terms as pastor for a total of more than 22 years of ministry here. At the time of his appointment, Pastor Cole said in reference to following Youngblood, “I can- not fill his shoes, but I can fol- low in his steps.” We are located at 7066 Cedar Hill Rd in Talbott and would like to welcome everyone to worship with us on Sunday mornings at 11 am and Wednes- day evenings at 7 pm.
