She recieved her Master of Science in Nursing and Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. During her Doctorate studies she did extensive research in prevention of coronary artery disease in Type 2 Diabetes in primary care settings devising a checklist to en- sure proper screenings were completed for patients with diabetes. Joyce is a Certified Diabetics Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). She taught Master- level nursing students from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, University of Aladama in Birmingham, Walden University, Troy State University, South University in Montgomery, and Missis- sippi University for women. Dr. Joyce Shea has extensive medical experience as an intensive care, Cadriovascular care and Emergency Depart- ment nurse. She and her husband, Thomas, relocated to the Shoals in 1987, as Thomas is originally from the Shoals. They have 2 grown children and 4 grandchildren. Dr. Joyce Shea hails from East Tennessee and has relocated back to our area from the Shoals.
