Chris Burgess was dispatched to 2109 Crutcher Road for a stolen fi rearm. Gary Grubbs had documentation from the Hessney Auction Company where he purchased the ri fl e. The serial number was con fi rmed as stolen. The ri fl e was recovered pending return to the originating agency. Trailer Theft On May 21, Dep. Chris Burgess was contacted at the Chapel Hill PD by Christine Noel in reference to a trailer at 1336 Hwy 99. Noel stated that she borrowed her sister’s trailer and she last saw it on the night on May 16 and noticed it was missing on May 18. The trailer is a single axle, 5 x 8 with a winched heavy ramp and a dent in the right rear fender. The trailer is valued at $2,000. Dog Attack The complainant Cory Burns stated that he is the caretaker of the residence lo- cated at 2055 Caney Springs Road in Chapel Hill. He stated that the previous tenant was evicted from the property. On May 22, the owner allowed the former tenant J. J. Sawyer to return to the property to col- lect his items but told him to be gone by 2 p.m. Burns went to the property at approximately 4 p.m. to lock the doors and cut the yard. He was unaware that Sawyer was still at the residence due to Sawyer’s car being parked be- hind the house. Sawyer owns an aggressive pit bull which had attacked law enforcement o ffi cers during the eviction pro- cess and as Burns approached the front door of the residence, the dog appeared from the cor- ner of the house and attacked him. The force of the attack, knocked him o ff his feet and he fell to the ground on his back. The dog continued to attack him and bit Burn’s foot. Burns stated that he kicked the dog several times but it continued attacking. Burns then shot the dog once in the face area with his Glock handgun. The dog let go of his foot and ran into the nearby woods. Burns then stat- ed that he heard Sawyers yell something but he could not make out what it was. Burns saw Sawyer retrieve the dog and leave the property. Burns had damage to his shoe but the bite did not break the skin. Animal control was noti fi ed of this incident. Domestic Assault On May 22, around 11:21 p.m., Ofc. Mojica was dispatched to speak with an individual at the MC Sheri ff ’s O ffi ce. Brianna Adams stated that her boyfriend, Lionel Harris, left lottery tickets in her vehicle, so she took them to him at his daughter’s house at 1241 Pine Cone Drive. He made a nasty remark to her because the tickets were not where he left them. He then told her to take him to the Chicken Store for cigarettes. He then grabbed a black nylon knife holster that had a knife inside of it and threatened to cut her head o ff . Adams said she stopped the truck on Pine Cone Drive/Acorn Drive due to his yelling and threats. He told her to drive and smacked her across the forehead and the back of her head. As he was striking her, she put the truck in park, turned o ff the engine and got out with the keys. She started speed walking to get away from him. A vehicle came up and someone shouted to Harris, “Don’t hit her – you’ll go back to jail.” The vehicle pulled into Harris’ daughter’s driveway, honking the horn. Adams stated that Harris walked away from her truck and she ran to her truck and sped o ff to her residence. Adams had a red, bloody laceration on her forehead on the right side of her face. EMS checked her out and cleaned the laceration. She was told of the bond conditions on Harris and he could not have any contact with her in any possible way until after court. She stated that she understood. Harris was not located on this date. He has an active warrant for Domestic Assault and bond conditions, total bond of $2,500. Vandalism Vandalism was reported at the Lewisburg Recreation Center on May 27. Three juveniles vandalized the male’s restroom behind the tennis courts and video was available. The water fountain between the restrooms was kicked multiple times and the sink in the restroom was broken and water sprayed out for approximately three hours before it was cut o ff . Photos and video were made of the incident. Money Scam On May 29, o ffi cers were dispatched to 1334 North Ellington Pkwy., Walmart, in reference to a scam. Contact was made with Dustin Vaughn who stated on May 26, two males went to customer service and submitted a request to transfer $2,500 via Moneygram while only providing $1,300. The male subject was seen taking money from the cashier to hide the money and confuse the cashier in order to make a transaction for $2,500 while only providing $1,300. When the registers were counted at closing time, they were short $1,200. Moneygram will not release any information on the subjects. A DVD with video footage from the incident was provided and submitted as evidence. Theft On May 29, two o ffi cers were fl agged down at 448 3 rd Ave North for a request to report a theft. Contact was made with Greg Zollner who stated that someone had stolen tools o ff his front porch and the person that he believed stole them drove a four door silver sedan. Zollner stated that he spoke with customers from Dalton’s Barbershop across the street who saw a white male with tattoos in the barbershop around the time the tools went missing. The barber also con fi rmed this. At approximately 4:40 p.m. that same day, Fto. Southerland noticed a vehicle that matched the description of the auto Zollner gave. Contact was made with the individual who said he had been at work the entire day and left only a brief time for lunch at 12 p.m. His vehicle was searched and nothing was found. Police Blotter
