The event coincided with the dedication of the Eric Barlow Memorial Park, which is located across the street from WM’s Ce- dar Ridge Land fi ll and Lewisburg Hauling o ffi ces. Eric managed Cedar Ridge Land fi ll and tragi- cally lost his life in 2019. He was a deeply loved father, husband, friend and member of the commu- nity. In an e ff ort to honor Eric’s memory and legacy of love, wit, and generosity, WM has worked with the City of Lewisburg and various other organizations such as Tennessee Environmental Council (TEC) and The Boy Scouts to create a park and “gateway” to the city of Lewisburg. The parcel of land where the park is located is owned by WM and prior to the new Mooresville HWY being built, served as the old entrance to the facility. WMhas collaborated with the City, TEC, and The Boy Scouts on tree plantings, brush clearing, and creating pollinator gardens. WM thanks everyone who attend- ed the event on Friday, especially the Barlow family, the Marshall Co Chamber of Commerce, and several local representative and elected o ffi cials including May- or Bingham, City Manager Bam Haislip, County Commissioner Anna Childress, Solid Waste Di- rector Dave Hunter, TN ECD Greg Lowe, and Marshall Co ECD Emily Darnell, former Lewisburg Mayor and Tree Representative Barbara Woods, Tree Representative Lisa Jackson, and Blake Neeley with Senator Blackburn’s o ffi ce. Well, there is one such youngman in Petersburg. Bryce Arnold is an 8th grade-level homeschool student. His fl exible home- school schedule has enabled him to pur- sue his dream of farming. This year he is expanding the size of his crop and is look- ing to purchase a combine to helpwith the harvest this fall. The community has been such an asset to this young man’s endeavors. Neighbors have o ff ered land for crop use and their mill formillinghis corn into cornmeal. The Lewisburg FarmCenter has assistedBryce with his calculations for fertilizer and seed per acre. Now the Marshall County Seed Library has acquired a donation of sweet corn seed from the Farm Center that they are passing along to young Bryce. Bryce is also a member of the Mar- shall Co 4-H Club for homeschoolers. He participates in their chick chain program and feeds his chickens with the corn he produces. Bryce is an active member with the youthgroup at ChurchStreet churchof Christ and he participates inmission work at the Navajo Reservation in the Four Cor- ners area for the Church Street church of Christ. This young man is living his dream – working with the dirt, planting seeds, watching the seeds grow, and soon he will be able to harvest the corn, then mill it to obtain a fi nished product. Yes, Bryce is liv- ing his dream and this is because he has high goals, ambition, and great support from family and neighbors. Imagine his achievements in the future.
