Sports Marshall County Post April 25, 2024 12A Lady Rockets skate past Summertown By CHRIS SIERS csiers@ bedfordcountypost.com C HAPEL HILL — In what could be a preview matchup in the Region 5-AA match up later this season, the Forrest Lady Rockets scoreda single run ineach of the fi nal three innings to beat Summertown, 4-2 on Monday evening at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill. During their fi rst meeting on March 18, the Lady Eagles brought out the heavy lumber and beat Forrest 9-4. On Monday evening, it was some timely hitting and a consistent e ff ort in the fi eld and in the circle by the Lady Rockets that landed Forrest the win. After freshman pitcher TayloreMoreland sat the Lady Eagles down in order in the top of the fi rst, a Maggie Daughrity leado ff double in the bottom of the inning set the stage for Christa Warren, who drove in the fi rst run of the game on a sac- fl y to deep center fi eld. An error and a sac- fl y from Summertown tied the game at one apiece in the top of the second and that score held until the Lady Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. After recording the fi rst out, back-to-back Lady Rocket errors allowed Summertown to take the lead on a RBI fi elder’s choice. Despite Summertown smacking a single to center fi eld after scoring the go-ahead run, Moreland pitched to contact and recorded a line out and a fl y out to end the Lady Eagle threat. She helped her own cause in the bottom of the fourth with a leado ff single and Forrest tied the in the next at-bat with a RBI double from Sarah King to tie the game at two. While Summertown was able to capitalize o ff a two-error inning in the fourth, Forrest repaid the favor in the bottom of the fi fth when Warren safely reached on an error at third, allowing Maggie Daughrity to score the go-ahead run. AnotherSummertown error in the sixth allowed Isabella Dockery to score an extra insurance run for Forrest. King went 3-for- 3 with a RBI to lead Forrest at the plate, while Daughrity went 2-for-4. Both King and Daughrity doubled. Moreland pitched a gem for the Lady Rockets, going the distance and allowing two unearned runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts.
