Lacy is thankful that she has the encour- agement and knowledge to make an impact on her students.) W hen I graduated high school, I originally wanted to be a kin- dergarten teacher. I knew I loved chil- dren and I had always loved to learn, so I thought blending these things would make a good career. Starting at fifteen, I worked at State Farm Insur- ance after school. I was lucky to have a great boss in Scot Bush, and I en- joyed insurance, so after getting mar- ried, I decided that insurance would be a natural career choice for me. I continued doing insurance with State Farm for thirteen years until I moved on to Michael Wealth Management and again, I was blessed with caring bosses who encouraged me to grow in my career while they expanded their business. During this time, my mom decided to go back to school to get her degree in education. Seeing her complete her degree and find a rewarding posi- tion at Marshall County High School, shifted my perspective and was the motivation I needed to go back to Middle Tennessee State University to finish my degree in education as well. I realized that teaching older children to love reading as I do was my calling and I am lucky to have colleagues that encourage me to make a difference for my students every day as well as administrators who help me improve and grow. While I am aware that not every student will be a reader, I have students who now read when they had not since elementary school and a student who is now writing poetry. These small victories make this the most rewarding job I have ever had and I am thankful for the opportunity to have an impact on my students.
