Story Hour at Carolyn Stewart Pub- lic Library will began Wednesday, September 4 at 10 a.m. for ages 2 – 5. Children will learn simple exercises, fi nger plays and hear stories based on a theme for the day and make a craft to take home. The hour-long program teaches children to be creative, imagina- tive and be socially ready to interact with other children their age. Our goal is to help provide children with a stimulat- ing environment where every day sounds, letters, shapes, books, songs and rhymes are the key factors that help make connections that are basic for early learning. For more information, please call the library at (423) 942-3369. 3 rd Annual SHP Hunter McCrary Memorial Bed Build – Saturday, September 7 at North Jackson High School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Be the hands and feet of Christ and join Sleep in Heavenly Peace and the McCrary’s Mis- sion to build beds for children in our commu- nity. If you are unable to come build you may also participate by donating mattress protectors, bed- ding, pillows or money to help purchase mattresses. Market in the Burg will be Saturday, Septem- ber 14 at a new location! Smoke on the Chimneys – The fi rst annual Smoke on the Chimneys will be held on Saturday, September 14 and is an event to raise money for Chimney Park. Come enjoy some deli- cious BBQ, live music and compete in an exciting cornhole tournament. Cornhole kicko ff at 12:30, all teams must be pres- ent at that time to check in. $20 per team and the winners will receive a cash prize. BBQ plates will be $10 and includes either a pulled pork sand- wich OR grilled chicken (chicken MUST be pre- ordered at Green Mart by Sept. 1), slaw, smoked mac & cheese and baked beans. St. Andrew’s-Se- wanee Gallery wel- comes the work of Aleta Chander, now through September 27. Commu- nity members will have the opportunity to meet and talk with the artist on Thursday, September 19, during a gallery reception from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the St. Andrew’s-Sewanee Gallery. The festival has over 175 craft/commercial vendors, enjoy over 30 food vendors, a petting zoo, pony rides, animal encounters, trackless train rides, face painting, in fl atables, and more! This event is rain or shine with free parking and free admission. Marion County Community Health Expo will be Saturday, September 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Court- house Square in Jasper. This event will provide resources, education and fun for the entire family. There will be giveaways for participants. The South Pitts- burg Rotary Club will be hosting a Remote Area Medical event October 12 and 13 at Jasper Elementary School. This event will provide dental, vision, medical and general support to those in need. Volunteers in the medical fi eld and those who are non-medical are needed to man this e ff ort. Scott and Kari, both Marine Corps veterans, were presented a Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding citizenship for their patriotism by keeping the American flag flying daily. Jasper Memorial Post 6362 recently visited the Signature Healthcare Center in Monteagle to honor one of the veteran patients, Anthony Byers, as Veteran of the Month. Mr. Byers is a veteran of the US Marine Corps.
