After the Pioneers went three-and-out, the Warriors wasted no time—41 seconds and two plays, in fact—before they put up six points on a Sam Pickett 34-yard run. That wouldn’t be the last time Pickett found the end zone in the evening. He scored two more times on 20-yard and 34-yard passes from quarterback Tilton Pickett, fi nishing with 126 yards of total o ff ense and three touch- downs. In their rout of the Pioneers, the Warriors stayed balanced, putting up 257 yards of total of- fense—146 rushing, 111 passing. Transfer tailback Mason Mays got in on the action, racking up 40 yards on the ground with one score, plus 23 receiv- ing yards. Zaiden Hum- phrey scored on a 25-yard punt return in the second quarter. Ashton Martin had 40 yards and scored the last Warriors touch- down in the third quarter. The Warriors’ defense looked as strong as ever and back in form from last season. Not only did they shut out the Pio- neers, they held them to just 72 yards of total of- fense, allowing them to convert only two of 11 third-down attempts. They forced the Pioneers to punt on all but two drives, one of those being the end of regulation. The other was Pickett making his presence known on defense with a late fi rst- quarter interception that eventually led to a War- riors score. The Warriors haven’t su ff ered a regular-season loss since Oct. 28, 2022, now winning 11 in a row. Theymake their home de- but of the 2024 season at 7 p.m. this Friday against 5A East Hamilton (1-0). –Photos courtesy of Marilyn Quarles
