I am a fi re fi ghter with South Pittsburg Moun- tain Fire Department and Haletown Fire Depart- ment. I have been a fi re- fi ghter for seven years. I would like to make our town more family orient- ed. I want to be able to bring in more businesses that are kid friendly to bring families together more. I would like to also have the roads fi xed and buildings taken care of to make our town more ap- proachable and appeal- ing. The community will have a voice with me as Mayor. Jimmy Layne spoke to the South Pittsburg Mayor and Commissioner board to request the closure of a sec- tion of Third Street in South Pittsburg on Friday, September 6, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The closure would a ff ect the area from the west side of the alley to the stop sign on Elm Street, while leaving the alley itself accessible. Layne explained that Burger Re- public, a Chattanooga-based compa- ny, plans to come and provide food for the South Pittsburg High School foot- ball team following their game that evening. The event is scheduled to take place in front of PLayne S.A.S.S., a soup and sandwich shop owned by Layne, which is set to open just before the event. The board unanimously approved Layne’s request for the road closure. In 1908 this photo was taken of the Nashville, Chattanooga, & Saint Louis Railroad Depot at Copenhagen.
