Marion County’s Finest 2024— 19 Larry Ziegler Named Finest Principal of the Finest School for 2024 L arry Ziegler began his teaching ca- reer at Marion County High School (MCHS) in 2000, and over the years, he has served in various roles including classroom teacher, athletic director, as- sistant principal, principal, and coach. Additionally, he has gained valuable ex- perience through his work with the Ten- nessee Department of Education and at the district level with Marion County Schools. His decision to pursue the role of principal was influenced by a long- standing goal to advance into adminis- tration, inspired by Coach Bill, the prin- cipal during his own time as a student at MCHS. Ziegler’s deep connection to the school and its community is rooted in his upbringing in the area. Throughout his life, Ziegler has been profoundly shaped by his family, par- ticularly his father, mother, and sister, whose support has been crucial to his success. Another significant influence was Coach Donnie Stewart, a high school teacher and coach, whose mentorship inspired Ziegler’s desire to become a teacher at MCHS and greatly impacted his career path. As principal, Ziegler’s day typically starts around 6:00 a.m., with a routine of walking the campus to pick up any trash and ensure the school is clean for the students. From 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., he and Coach Keef, the assistant principal, focus on being visible in the parking lot to welcome students. Once school is in session, his attention shifts to supporting students, faculty, and staff, with the school day ending around 3:00 p.m. when he oversees traffic and bus pick-up. Ziegler’s favorite part of his job is interacting with students and witness- ing their development into young adults with bright futures. This personal con- nection and the positive impact on stu- dents are the most rewarding aspects of his role. Winning the title of Finest Principal and School in Marion County was a deeply gratifying experience for Ziegler. He expressed pride in the recognition, attributing it to the outstanding efforts of the students and staff at MCHS. Looking ahead, he hopes to continue fostering a positive school culture where students are eager to attend, parents feel assured of their children’s safety, and faculty and staff feel valued and motivated. He is excited about upcoming events and activities that reflect the vibrant and supportive culture at MCHS.
