LACIE SILVA Editor M ayor Jason Turner presented the AirMed contract for ap- proval to the Jasper Board of Mayor and Alderman at a recent meeting to cover Jasper residents for life- fl ight emergencies. This contract, valued at $9,502, is reviewed and renewed annu- ally and has maintained a relatively consistent price over the years. The contract ensures that if a resident of Jasper, who is experiencing an emer- gency, within Marion County, that requires air transport due to an ac- cident or medical emergency, the as- sociated fl ight costs will be covered. Mayor Turner cited a past incident where a resident’s $18,000 air trans- port bill was fully covered by this contract, emphasizing its value and e ffi cacy. Vice Mayor Les Price con fi rmed the details and restrictions of the contract, and Mayor Turner reiter- ated that it has been a longstanding part of the town’s budget. The con- tract automatically covers all resi- dents of Jasper within Marion Coun- ty. Residents are registered through a database and receive a keychain button indicating their coverage. Alderwoman Vikki Morgan sought clari fi cation on how residents are informed about the coverage. Mayor Turner explained that a da- tabase produces a list of names and addresses for registration, and resi- dents are sent a keychain button. The board also discussed an additional, optional plan that could cover air transport costs for residents travel- ing outside the local area, such as during vacations, but exact pricing for this plan was not available. There is also an optional one-time home transfer fee for residents needing transport back home, which is part of a separate contract. Alderwoman Morgan emphasized the importance of providing this cov- erage to residents and motioned for the contract’s renewal. The motion was seconded by Vice Mayor Price, and the board unanimously ap- proved the renewal.
