Marie was born on March 4, 1938, in Victoria, Tennessee to the late Henry Russell and Burmah Kilgore Russell. She was a member of Jasper First Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She graduated from Marion County High School. Marie cherishedmany friendships and enjoyed the company of her family, neighbors and church friends, but especially the bonds she shared with Barbara Holloway, Darlene Moore and Ann Thompson. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Russell, and one sister, Carolyn Russell Howard. She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry William Cantrell; one son, Michael “Mike” Cantrell; grandson, Reece Cantrell; sister, Rose Russell Ball and several nieces, nephews and friends. A visitation was held on Thursday, June 6, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home, 21 East Fifth Street in Jasper. A graveside services was held on Friday, June 7, at 10 a.m. at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jasper, with Pastor Greg Steele o ffi ciating. The Marion Tribune – June 13, 2024 Barbara Lou “Sudie” Kilgore Moon, 84 Barbara Lou “Sudie” Kilgore Moon, 84, of South Pittsburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 5. Sudie was born on June 11, 1939, in Lake City, Tennessee and was Church of God faith. Sudie enjoyed spending time with her family, listening to music, reading, shopping, working in her fl ower garden and watching Jimmy Swaggert. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles A Moon, Sr, granddaughter, Amy Danielle Hutchins; father, Clyde Kilgore; mother, Grace Cleveland Birdwell; daughter, Dianne Cartwright; sister, Stella Rollins and brothers, Carlos Kilgore, Bobby Ray Kilgore, and Willie Bob “Bobby” Kilgore. Survivors include daughter, Barbara Hutchins; son, Charles “Chuck” A. Moon, Jr.; grandsons, Daniel Hutchins, Jared (Christen) Cartwright, and James Cartwright; brothers, Tommy (Nellie) Kilgore and Don (Brenda) Birdwell, and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation was held on Monday, June 10, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service in the chapel. The Marion Tribune – June 13, 2024 Mickey Joe Wilson, 77 Mickey Joe Wilson, 77, of South Pittsburg, died June 6, at his home following an extended illness. He was born on October 5, 1946, to the late Joe Ray and Juanita Brown Wilson. He graduated from South Pittsburg High School in 1964 where he was a member of the 1963 Championship football team, the All-Star team, and winning the Sportsman trophy his senior year. He had several careers over the years, but his proudest achievement was teaching and coaching Pirate football with Don Grider. He became Director of Vocational Education in Marion County School System establishing the curriculum for vocational education and was instrumental in establishing the certi fi cation program for CNAs in Marion County. Over the years he enjoyed lifting weights, being outdoors including bass fi shing on the Tennessee River and riding horses. He was a talented piano player and later in life a skilled woodworker. He loved life, his family and never met a stranger. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Samantha Wilson; his daughters, Ta ff y Wilson of Sequatchie, Maggie (Mark) Cooper, of Hixson; one sister, Jane Dawkins, South Pittsburg; nephew, Tyler (Mary Katherine) Dawkins; great niece, Sophie of South Pittsburg, and many special friends. The family wishes to thank the nurses of Adoration Hospice of Jasper. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. The Marion Tribune – June 13, 2024 Jerry William Nelson, 93 Jerry WilliamNelson, age 93, of Cowan, passed away on Thursday, June 6, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 5, 1931, in Jasper, to the late Cli ff ord and Ethel Howard Nelson. He was a member of the Cowan Church of Christ and was a US Army Veteran. Jerry grew up with a love for music, playing in a band at the age of 16. When he was deployed to Germany, he was a member of a band called The Rhythm Rangers. After returning home from the military, he started a career as a DJ, working at numerous radio stations in Alabama and Tennessee. Including the local radio stations of Franklin County, WCDT and WZYX. Jerry also hosted a radio show on WSM in Nashville and gave him the opportunity to interview numerous country music artists which led him to an opportunity to be an announcer at the Grand Ole Opry. In 1965, he recorded his fi rst single, “Easy Come Easy Go”, with DOT Records and multiple singles to follow with one featuring Ringo Starr on the drums. After his recording career, he owned WVSV in Stevenson, Alabama and WEPG in South Pittsburg, which is where he had his fi rst DJ job. After retirement, he enjoyed playing and singing music for his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jerry was a kind, loving Christian man with a heart of gold. He was devoted to his family, and never would want anyone to go without. He always treated everyone with respect and never met a stranger. In addition, to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, Chuck Nelson, Cli ff ord Nelson, Jr.; sisters, Frances Casteel; and great grandson, DaKota Holt; son-in-law, Drexal T. Holt. He is survived by his lovingwife of 73 years, Betty KilgoreNelson; children, Arnold Nelson (Angie), Darrel Nelson (Tina), Dennie Nelson (Susan), Debbie Matthews (Je ff ), Angela Holt; ten grandchildren, Heather Derryberry, Heath Nelson, Adam Nelson, Eric Nelson, Ryan Nelson, Je ff ery Matthews, Tonya Allen, Stephen Matthews, Chad Holt, and Jason Holt; 23 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; brother, Tommy Nelson; sister, Margaret Bolton. The Marion Tribune – June 13, 2024 Bobby Ambrester, 73 Bobby Ambrester, 73, of South Pittsburg, passed away on Friday, June 7, at home with his loved ones. Bobby was a be- loved husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather as well as a beloved friend to this community. He will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him. Bobby grew up in Kimball with his parents Billy and Bonnie Ambrester. He attended South Pittsburg High School and was a member of the 1969 State Championship football team. After graduating, he became a mechanic for Adcock Racing team, and later started his own mechanic business and towing service. He was a valued member of the Sweetens Cove community where he helped to start and build the Sweetens Cove Volunteer Fire Department. He was proud to serve as the assistant chief and later be- came chief. He prided himself on being the best. He enjoyed farming and taking care of his cows, but his real joy was time with his family. Hewas preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years Terry Ambrester; son, Jake Ambrester; daughter, Susan (Bob) Baxter; grandchildren, Caleb (Ceri) Rector, Cole Rector, Skye Baxter, Aurora Ambrester, Bentlee Muir and great- grandson, Quade Rector. He is also survived by his favorite aunt, Patsy Sherrill and several cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 14, at noon in the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Potter o ffi ciating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral home prior to the funeral service in the chapel.
