Orena Humphrey Public Library hosting book sale - The Orena Humphrey Public Library is hosting a larger thannor- mal book sale corner that features donated items and materials thathavebeenre- moved from the collection. This collection includes books, DVDs, VCRmovies, and a fewbooks on cassette tape. Interested patrons can purchase these items for a fee of $3 per bag, with the library providing the bag. Currently, the book sale corner is fully stocked, but the sta ff anticipates the need to weed out some items in the coming weeks to make space for new ad- ditions to the shelves. The Hippology Team, consisting of Kasey Colvin, Michaella Petty, Brady Higdon, and Isabella Petty, will attend three contests this fall in Georgia, Kentucky, and Ohio. Additionally, Sam Lipton will represent Marion County 4-H at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships in Nebraska this summer. These dedicated youths have demonstrated their commitment to the program, and support is being sought to help cover their expenses. T he South Pittsburg High School (SPHS) Interact Club had a very ac- tive May. At the start of the month, they hosted a bake sale in memory of Holly Castle and the $200 went to Blessed, Inc. Holly’s monthly bingo sessions at The Bridge were always a highlight. On May 11, the club participated in the Children’s Nutrition Pro- gramHope for Haiti Walk- A-Thon at Coolidge Park in Chattanooga, where they met the founder, Dr. Mitchell Mutter, and raised $600 for the event. Later that day, the Interact Club assisted the Whitwell High School Interact Club at a bene fi t event for Izzy Nar- ramore, who was seriously injured in a car accident in late April and is currently hospitalized inAtlanta. SPHS and WHS Interact Clubs community work Marc and Leigh Walker of Sweetons Cove have been selected Citizens of the Week by Jasper Memorial Post 6362 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for flying the American flag in front of their home daily. The VFW presented them with a Certificate of Appreciation for their outstanding citizenship demonstrated by their dedication to keep the national colors proudly waving at their home for all to see.
