The three librar- ies of Marion County were packed to the brim last week with learning, fun, and many eager children. The Beene-Pearson Public Library recently hosted Tammie Parker, an en- thusiast of earth sciences, who delivered an engaging presentation on geology and fossils. The Carolyn Stewart Public Library was packed to capacity when Barry Mitchell presented his show, “Sam the Turtle Presents Mis-Adventures in Fun.” The children were thoroughly enter- tained, laughing and enjoying the antics of Sam the Turtle and Hyena the Chick- en. The Whitwell Orena Humphrey Pub- lic Library was fi lled to capacity as rep- resentatives from the Tennessee Aquar- ium conducted an educational session on freshwater amphibians, including the Fire Belly Salamander, and saltwater creatures such as Sea Urchins and Sea Stars. Participants even had the oppor- tunity to touch the saltwater creatures, making the experience both informative and interactive. Next week, Marion County public libraries will continue o ff ering fun and educational events. At the Beene-Pear- son Public Library, attendees can look forward to a “Space Camp” presentation by Ethan Devore on Friday, June 21, at 10 a.m. The Carolyn Stewart Public Li- brary will host a spellbinding magic act by Jerry White on Wednesday, June 26, at 10 a.m. Finally, the Whitwell Orena Humphrey Public Library will feature an engaging “Animal Adventures” presen- tation by Mama’s Ark on Tuesday, June 18, at 10 a.m. Join the Marion County libraries for special summer reading fun. Summer reading off to a fantastic start Whitwell Education and Heritage Center is hosting a gospel night for all ages at the Whitwell High School Football Field on June 29. Children 12 years and under get in for free. Tickets are sold for $20 with all proceeds going to the funding of theWhitwell Education and Heritage Center. Featuring acts Andy Rollins, BSHOC, and Danielle Hargrove, the concert will be a fun night of music and supporting com- munity. Join the WEHC in support of their cause. Cedar Co. to celebrate six month anniversary Cedar Co. Mercantile is set to celebrate its six-month anniversary with an open house event. The celebration will take place on Saturday, June 15th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees can look forward to a day filled with giveaways, sales, and light refreshments. Cedar Co. invites the community to join in marking their exciting milestone. P re-K registration for June and July 2024 is now open. Parents are ad- vised to contact Karina Kirk, the Pre- K supervisor, to schedule appoint- ments during these months. Parents are requested to schedule appointments with Karina Kirk to register their chil- dren or return registration information and are reminded not to return any information directly to the elementary schools.
