28 —Summer Local Living May 2024 NATHAN HAVENNER Contributor O ffering up panoramic views span- ning three states, and overlook- ing the Tennessee River, Lookout Winery in Guild, Tennessee has all the makings for a memorable experience for visitors. Owner Chuck Bordogna said he es- tablished the winery, located at 11848 US Highway 41 in 2015, taking his family history of winemaking to the next level. “My family has been making wine from grapes from California and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania since the late 1930s when we had our own vines,” he said. Bordogna said in addition to the com- mon standard varietals of wine, such as Merlot, Moscato and Riesling, Lookout Winery also offers up a selection of its own custom blends. “There are no sulfites added to the wines, so you won’t get headaches from them, they are all natural,” he said. “The reds are over four years old the whites are over two years old.” When it comes to making his blends, it all comes down to experience. “I have been doing it since I was four years old, so it is just part of my history,” Bordogna said. “It is the way I taste the grapes, and when fermentation is finished after two years I will taste the wine and decide what goes well with each other.” In addition to their wines, Lookout Winery is also known for its handcrafted pizzas, based on Bordogna’s grandmoth- er’s recipe from Naples Italy.
