8 The Central Virginian • 2023 • Lure of Lake Anna The 50-year-old campground has hosted visitors from all over the globe. “We’ve had people from Ja - pan come over here to see the place,” Kelley says. “People from all over the world have come here.” In the 50 years since its in - ception, Lake Anna’s popu - larity has steadily increased. Residences, stores and res - taurants have sprouted around the area and the tens of thousands of visitors that come to Christopher Run Campground make it the lake’s most popular camping destination. Many patrons have been visiting for decades and have known the vacation destination since their youth. “We have a lot of families that come in. They came when they were little kids. They’re parents brought them,” says Kelley. “Now, they’re bringing their kids.”
